John 12:35-36

John 12:35-36 “My light will be with you just a little longer. Walk in the light while you can so the darkness will not overtake you. Those who walk in darkness cannot see where they are going. Put your trust in the light while there is still time, then you will become children of the light.”
This is not the first time that Jesus has used light to describe himself. And I think we can easily miss the significance of these words if we don’t know their meaning. The word “light” as Jesus is using it here comes from the greek word “phos.” Which means, the power of understanding especially moral and spiritual truth. That which is exposed to the view of all, openly, publicly. Of truth and it’s knowledge, together with spiritual purity. This is powerful folks, this is the way life is meant to be. What’s the alternative, to live in ignorance of divine things, enslaved to your flesh and every desire that can possibly enter your mind. Because that’s what happens when darkness overtakes us.
Listen carefully to what Jesus is telling us. We first walk in the light protected by it and when we trust it, we become children of the light. There is a huge difference between walking in something and then becoming that which you are walking in. Jesus seeks to transform our entire being, and all we have to do is trust him.
