The Chancellor Rachel Reeves committed one of the greatest acts of gaslighting the British public: she claimed in the House of Commons on Tuesday that she and the new Government have been given the worst economic inheritance since the Second World War, and that the Conservatives left behind a £22 billion black hole in the public finances.
