About Megan Callus: Megan is the creator and founder of Boundless Breath NJ. She spent the last decade studying the brain and body and found the most powerful way of changing and healing the body was simply adjusting the way we breathe. She created Boundless Breath, specializing in respiratory training (aka breathwork) to teach clients how to use their breath to reduce stress and heal their bodies. Megan focuses on the neurology, biochemistry, biomechanics, and psychosocial elements of breathing. Her goal is to help everyone discover the power and magic of their own breath.

In this episode Adam and Megan discuss:

  • The importance of the breath
  • Is there a right way to breathe?
  • Getting the most out of breathwork exercises
  • Breathing during meditation

Key Takeaways:

  • Several body systems are affected by how we breathe, so we should recognize how our breath impacts them, as well as what different breathing practices we will use, whether we are going to use our breath for energy, or whether we are going to use it for anxiety and stress reduction.
  • Depending on the results you're seeking, there is a right way to breathe, but the optimal breath is an inhalation through the nose that is quiet and slow.
  • Taking care of oneself, as well as learning techniques and tools, such as breathwork exercises, can help people to be more productive and healthier, and allow them to be in a state of focus, flow, and productivity in the workplace.
  • In meditative practice, it is best to breathe through your nose almost always – pay attention to the sensations of your breath, the coolness of the air as it enters your nostrils, the warmth of the air as it leaves, the expansion of your belly, sides, and back when you inhale and the contraction as you exhale. The more focused you can be on your breath, the slower you become, and the easier it is for you to enter a meditative state.

“When you're in those states of stress, if you take just a moment to pause and take 10 breaths extending those exhales, you're going to recognize that you can shift and be more functional and that the perspective on things will shift as well.” - Megan Callus
