As we observe societies that continually fail to act in the interests of the majority of their populations, we are compelled to call into question their modes of governance. Can we rely on democracy to fulfil its promise in the face of corrupting trends in contemporary media? How can we be effective political actors without the resources and influence of gun and oil lobbyists?
