A California native, Shannon Rugani trained with San Francisco Ballet School on a full merit scholarship, joining San Francisco Ballet in 2004 as one of the youngest company members in history. In 2014, she left SFB to join the original cast of the Tony Award winning Broadway musical, An American In Paris.

In 2019, Shannon decided to focus on her music career as a singer/songwriter, under the stage name EMPRESS®. Shannon started composing music at age 4, and in 2023 went back to her roots to write symphonies for ballets. Most recently she’s been commissioned to write her first full length score for a ballet about Marilyn Monroe that will premiere at Oregon Ballet Theater in Portland Oregon in April 2025.

Shannon’s latest role as a mom to a baby girl born, January 2024, is her most exciting and fulfilling one yet! ______________________
