Have you tried everything you can think of to support your struggling learner, yet they still struggle? In this episode, I’m talking with educational therapists and cohosts of the Learn Smarter Podcast, Rachel Kapp, and Stephanie Pitts. Educational therapy is different than tutoring because it focuses on helping students develop the strategies they need to become independent learners.
In this episode, you’ll learn:
- What an educational therapist does
- Why the goal of a good educational therapist is to work themselves out of a job
- How parent’s focus on student potential without addressing concerns can negatively impact a child’s academic performance, self-confidence, and family relationships
- The importance of executive functioning and organization as students transition into the middle and high school years
About the Guests:
Rachel Kapp, M.A., ET/P
Rachel grew up in Los Angeles. She graduated from the University of California, Berkeley, where she earned a Bachelor of Arts with Honors in Sociology and minored in Jewish Studies. Rachel has been a tutor in private practice since 2004, working with students in a variety of subjects including all levels of math, reading, history and writing. After working with so many types of students over the years and realizing she was passionate about building relationships with and helping students who learn differently, Rachel decided to pursue Educational Therapy. About the Host:
Janice Scholl has spent her entire career talking about money and business. Through her time as a commercial banker, consultant and mentor to budding entrepreneurs, she helped clients create solid business and financial strategies to help propel their business to success. While working with aspiring female entrepreneurs, Janice noticed that the same four themes kept repeating:
- Many women are uncomfortable with finance, both in their business and in their personal life.
- Women want access to more women mentors and advisors.
- Women often start businesses because they feel the corporate world doesn’t fit their lifestyle. Few are motivated by purely financial reasons.
- Mothers didn’t want money to drive their family decisions.
From these themes The Money, Career, & Motherhood Podcast was born. Now Janice spends her time helping mothers gain confidence and understanding about money, career, and business topics as they relate to motherhood and family – the way many women actually think about money. Janice loves helping mothers implement business and financial strategies within their families to help each family member thrive.
