Found another great reminder from a longtime connection that I have had to finding successful clues. Alan Stein, Jr. (@AlanSteinJr) brings up this very important point that we all can use in life. “Blaming, complaining, and making excuses will never move you forward or make your situation better.” There have been times in my life where I thought that one of these 3 (usually all 3 together) would make me feel better, help me in some way, etc. But I usually found out later that it caused me more trouble for sure. I think we all know plenty of people that blame, complain and make excuses all of the time! Those people I usually separate myself from in some way, since I don’t want their behavior and choices, having an effect on me. I make enough trouble for myself that I certainly don’t need others doing it for me. Thanks for listening. Found another great post from Reads with Ravi (@readswithravi), where this was shared: “Goals are for people who care about winning once. Systems are for people who care about winning repeatedly.” - James Clear is the one who shared that gem of a thought. The system we all need to create (and we do it whether we know it or not), is with our habits. The things we do every day in our lives. The choices we make, make us! Having one goal here or there is not a bad thing. But to really change things in our lives, it’s the system we create for ourselves - that’s the key for sure!! I know I need to keep focusing on creating my best system for my life and you can do the same for your life. Thanks for listening. Found an important reminder for me and others on a few things to take on every day. I found this from Jon Beck (@CoachJonBeck) and he shares this: “4 diseases we must fight every day: Negativity, Mediocrity, Comfort and Entitlement. Stay positive, commit to excellence & never be outworked. Surround yourself w/ people who make you happy, laugh, recharge your energy & give you a sense of peace. Then you can take on those who don’t!” I’ve been finding that I need to “intentionally choose” to focus in on things like these and make sure I zero in on my choices a little bit better every day. It’s work of course, but what’s the alternative? To choose to be negative, mediocre, stay comfortable and to have an attitude of gimme, gimme, gimme?? The choice is simple, but maybe not easy to do every day. Again, things worthwhile are not supposed to be easy, but they are worth it. Thanks for listening. Found a great thought from one of the great basketball coaches. It’s shared by Coach Mac (@BballCoachMac) and the quote he’s sharing is: “With the absence of pressure, it's hard to do great things” - Geno Auriemma. Once again we see that basketball is a great mirror of life. Great things are not supposed to be hard. They are not supposed to be easy. So as we all go through our ups and downs in life - and that will always be the case as I was reminded about this week, going through some health issues, I needed this reminder for sure. I’m looking at these challenges as a refocusing point. Thanks for listening. Found a simple, yet powerful truth for all of us to remember. This comes from Power of Positivity (@LIVEpositivity), where we are reminded that we all have problems and none of us are super easy to be with all the time. But, if we find someone that is committed to you and wants to grow with you, despite not being easy to be with, that is something to celebrate and invest in. Remember, do that for others too. For me, it’s my wife for sure - we put up with some things from each other (her more than me), but that is one of so many great things we have with the history we have together. I hope you have that too or that you are at least seeking that in your life too. Thanks for listening. As I’m still taking on this bug I have, I saw this post that got me thinking a bit about how each of us has a “culture”. I found this from Hoop Herald (@TheHoopHerald) where this quote was shared: “Culture and doing things the right way should be the focus every day. Your daily habits are what you lean on when things get hard” - Jay Wright. As we all have things that get difficult throughout life, it really comes down to our own culture and what we have created in our everyday lives - that helps to either get us through the challenges or causes more challenges. My current challenge is getting better, and I’m still trying to make sure I do things the right way - even if they are a bit slower. If we set up those good habits, then it won’t matter what the day is all about, we’ll just keep doing the right thing. It’s a good way to get through easy days and hard ones too. Short show today as I’m still not feeling that great, but I wanted to get this out to you from Therapy Quotes (@Therapyquotes_) where we are reminded that we have been through hard times before, and that we will get through tough times now. Found a great reminder for me and all of us from Allistair McCaw (@AllistairMcCaw) and he brings up the fact that no matter what kind of day we have (some of these are all at once too), the mindset of a champion is to just keep going. Doesn’t have to be at the same speed as we normally might do, but just don’t quit!! I’m under the weather today - that’s why I wanted to just keep going with this “combo” episode. Normally I have two episodes come out on Monday, today… this is it. Hope it still helps you in some way. Thanks for listening. Found another gem, which I shared with some basketball coaches & players and it comes from another coach! Greg Berge (@gb1121): “Unfair will happen to you. Adversity will happen to you. Ask yourself… - How will you react? - How will you respond? - Which version of you will show up? Train your mind ahead of time. Your response will define you.” This is a powerful reminder and one that I’ve been trying to work on for a long time. I do want to show up as my best possible self - not just in the good times, but all the time!! I’m working on training my mind to respond correctly. It’s the rest of me that I have to train as well. Since we all have adversity and unfair things in our lives - how will we respond? How do we make the best choice as to how we respond? It’s a skill to practice for sure… always and forever. Found another gem from one of my All-Star former students, Coach Ray Ostrowski (@CoachRayO3313) where he is not only sharing good information with his students and his players, but also with anyone like us - at any age. Here is his intro to the quote he is sharing: “We all know there is a price to be paid. What far fewer understand is that the price often changes, even daily. You have to condition yourself to be ready to exceed whatever it takes to be successful at any given moment. It takes what it takes.” Each and every day has different challenges for us in our lives. The standard we set for ourselves should help us to pay whatever the price is day in and day out. Different days have many different things going on for all of us. Even if we get derailed a few days (or longer), we need to get right back to doing what we know we need to do to make things happen in our lives. Having great people around in my life sure does help me to be able to pay whatever cost I need to pay to do things the right way. I hope you have people like that too. Thanks for listening. In today’s world, so many people are going through tough moments. Life has them all the time. I found something that was a good reminder for me and all of us, that when we do go through the hard times and it’s from The Winning Difference (@thewinningdiff1) where they had a clip of Kentucky Men’s Basketball Head Coach, Mark Pope where he shared this: “"It's these hard moments that make you grow too. When you can take the hard moments and turn them into something great...that's when you are on a journey." With the right mentality, hard moments don’t break you—they make you.” The tough moments I’m going through, I’m trying to connect with this more and more. I also am looking to improve my response to these tough moments so that I can find areas of growth and learning, instead of just getting all emotionally worked up where I’m not figuring things out and / or seeing possibilities that are there because of the struggles. I also am connecting this to learning from others’ struggles. What’s going on with the fires out in California, really shows the human spirit of trying to help and care for others. So many examples all throughout life that we can learn from, not just the ones going on with ourselves. Thanks for listening. Found another “hit” with another post from Mark Hickie (@MPHickie) and here is what he said about the quote he shared… “We shape our own journeys. Each page is a chance to decide who we are and where we’re headed, no matter the challenges we face. You are the author of your own story. Control your narrative one page at a time.” A powerful reminder of a few things that I connected with here & I hope you can find a few nuggets that you could use too. Thanks for listening. Saw a great post from Power of Positivity (@LIVEpositivity) where they share these “4 things you can't get back… The Stone after it’s thrown. The Word after it’s said. The occasion after it’s missed. The Time after it’s gone. - Deanna Wadsworth.” Each of these four things are all easy to connect with and we all can come with our own examples of these that we have done in our own lives. It’s something to keep an eye on every day as these things are a great guideline to have a good life, if we take them into account. I know I need to do more of these for sure. Thanks for listening. Found a gem from The Winning Difference (@thewinningdiff1) and it’s a great lesson for all of us from one of the best coaches that has ever helped be a leader & encourager for young people. “Never compromise your principles; never lower your standards. Whatever it is that you desire to do in life, have the courage and commitment to do it and do it to your absolute best.” - Pat Summit I am reminded that each and every day I need to take the little steps to make sure I stay true to my principles and my standards. To remind myself that the things I want to do with my life and for others, cannot be done by taking easy shortcuts. I need to keep working on improving myself so that I can have the courage and commitment to keep going on doing the things that I want to spend my life doing for others & for my family. Found a very powerful thought from Mindful Maven (@mindfulmaven_) “Those who died yesterday had a plan for this morning. And those who died this morning had plans for tonight. Don’t take life for granted. In the blink of an eye, everything can change. So forgive often and love with a full heart. You never know when you may not have that chance again.” This got me thinking of course and I hope it does the same for you. It’s a reminder for us to keep trying to be our best in life and that if we do our best every day, when things like this do happen, we will not have any extra grief to deal with. During this recording I had plenty of examples of friends & loved ones going through tough times when someone unexpectedly leaves this world. Lots of emotions rolling in this episode too. Found another fabulous post from Mark Hickie (@MPHickie) and truthfully, I’m starting to look for his posts more often too. This one came from a few days ago, but I had to share it with you today. He reminded us that “the world doesn’t need you to know everything. The world doesn’t need you to be perfect. The world just needs you to show up and give it your best shot. So lead by example, share your experiences, inspire others with your actions, and never hold your gifts back.” For me, another powerful example is to not hold back in doing what I want to do and that is to make a difference with others. I need to keep showing up every single day and continue to give it my best effort in doing the things that I know I’ve been called to do. Let this sink in and see what you come up with connecting to this post of his. Thanks for listening.
