Steps To Take When Your Partner Calls "Flooded"

Have conflicts in your marriage? Of course. Wish you handled them better? Of course. Managing conflict well is a massive growth area for most couples. Usually, we either stuff it, we detach, or we blow up. None of those are healthy so we need a new way. The new way is what I call the diamond. At the top of the diamond someone calls flooded, which means the conversation is getting elevated and we're going to stop before it gets worse. Second, we go our separate ways to take a break to de-flood. Third, we come back together within 24 hours once we're both relaxed and use the mini reunite tool to discuss the conflict rather than sweeping it under the rug. In this episode, I interview Michelle Grosser, nervous system expert, on practical tips to help us during the de-flood step.
Call 303-578-0618 and leave a voicemail with your marriage question and I'll respond to it on an upcoming episode. To schedule a free marriage counseling session with me on the podcast click here.
