On February 1, 2012, Samantha Koenig was taken from a coffee stand in Anchorage, Alaska. Her disappearance made no sense to investigators. There weren't signs of a struggle, she'd sent an angry text to her boyfriend, and security footage showed two people walking through a parking lot arm in arm. But when a ransom note appeared weeks after her capture, accompanied by a disturbing photo of Samantha, investigators were sure she was in danger. ATM withdrawals would take detectives thousands of miles away to Lufkin, Texas, where they'd arrest a killer who was more monster than man. Police weren't prepared for the psychopath they'd placed in custody, but they would soon uncover chilling horrors and resolutions to questions long unanswered.
