Dr. Barry Raphael is an orthodontist who has adopted a new approach to mouth health. Influenced by a book written by Dr. Herman Ramirezwho points out that the position of the tongue, a soft tissue, is able to change the shape of the face, affect teeth growth, airway development and sleep habits. Dr. Raphael emphasizes the prevention of crooked teeth and the use of airway-focused techniques which he now uses in his practice, including: Myobrace, ALF, Biobloc Orthotropics, Myofunctional Therapy, Breathing Re-Patterning and other techniques to change human habits. His practice involves other practitioners such as craniosacral practitioners, nutritionists, chiropractors, and many others he might recommend depending on what is wrong. Symptoms like open mouth breathing found in tongue-tie are one of the first signs of trouble for a patient's future health. Topics in health he tries to prevent, autism, stuffy noses, ADHD, ADD, sleep apnea, and much more. Dr. Raphael highly recommends the following book by James Nestor - Breath: The New Science of a Lost Art for those who would like to know more from a layperson's perspective:

Breath: The New Science of a Lost Art: Nestor, James: 9780735213616: Amazon.com: Books
Guest Bio:

DRaphael, (Rayfill) who is an integrative or holistic orthodontist who’s been in private practice for 33 years. In his 27 year he changed the character of his practice to address airway and myofunctional (muscle habit) issues regarding teeth health, which was influenced by a book he read by Herman Ramirez, another orthodontist who authored a book where he points out that the position of the tongue, a soft tissue, is able change the shape of the face, affect teeth growth, affect airway development and sleep habits.
Dr. Raphael wants this transition in thinking that he has adopted to be the new model for how the profession of orthodontics should prioritize the treatment of the patient which is to address the habits not the just teeth or the beauty of the teeth. In other words, addressing the overall health of the patient. Dr. Raphael emphasizes the prevention of crooked teeth and the use of airway-focused techniques which he now uses in his practice, including: Myobrace, ALF, Biobloc Orthotropics, Myofunctional Therapy, Breathing Re-Patterning, Non-Retractive Orthodontics and why its important to understand Dr. Raphael works with children as young as 4 years old to address early breathing, right posture and sleep habits and so on. Dr. Raphael is a member of the AAPMD, the American Association of Orthodontists, the American College of Dentists, and the American Dental Association.
