On the outskirts of the Civil War, a boy (Ashton Sanders) is sent by a bounty hunter gang to retrieve a wanted freedman and bring him back to the South, but as they begin to form an unexpected bond, the boy must face a gut-wrenching decision. The Retrieval is directed by American filmmaker Chris Eska, of the film August Evening previously, which won him an Indie Spirt Award. Variance Films will be releasing Chris Eska's The Retrieval in limited theaters starting April 2, 2014 this spring. Variance Films has acquired U.S. distribution for Civil War drama “The Retrieval,” which won a grand jury acting prize for Tishuan Scott at South by Southwest.

Producers are Jacob Esquivel and Jason Wehling, and executive producers are Alan Berg (Arts + Labor), Tom Borders (Sixth Street Films), and Sibyl Avery Jackson.

Chris Eska directed from his own script with the story set in 1864, near the end of the Civil War.

Recently, The cast & director were invited to the SAG Foundation Conversation Series.
