In this episode of I forgot to ask the doctor, Dr Gail Busby interviews stroke expert Dr David Hargroves. We discuss how blood pressure, pulse, lipids and stress can affect stroke risk. This conversation with a stroke specialist is illuminating about stroke diagnosis, stroke symptoms and stroke treatment, including physiotherapy and contact with a stroke nurse. We discuss risk factors for stroke. Brain scans and the difference between an ischaemic stroke from a blood clot and a haemorrhagic stroke or bleed on the brain. The use of anticoagulants and fibrinolytics or clot-busting drugs as well as aspirin, clopidogrel and antihypertensives and statins. The surgical procedure of mechanical thrombectomy discussed as well as the medical option of thrombolysis. TIA and stroke versus migraine headaches.
