39:30The Power of Self Belief ~ Guest, Caren Paskel Let's Talk Wellness - with Host, Mara James Self belief is like a muscle; you have to use it in order for it to strengthen. It is worth the workout, though. And it can help you achieve a whole new level of your power and capability. This week, Mara welcomes Caren Paskel to share her inspiring journey into her powerful life as she developed her self beliefs, and now gets to support her clients to discover the power of their self beliefs, too. Caren Paskel, public speaker, artist, writer, and non-profit leader, is deeply committed to empowering her community and caregivers. As the founder of the Self-Evolution Education Foundation , S.E.E., she is a true philanthropist. Caren launched the Self-caregiving program to empower caregivers with self-care practices and her profound book, The Power of Self-Belief . Caren's journey to speaking and educating stemmed from years of yoga practice, teaching yoga, and studying Universal Laws. She became the owner of two successful EnSoul Yoga studios. While preparing to open a third studio, a seismic shift occurred: her twenty-eight-year-old husband became terminally ill during a global pandemic that required a total pivot and recreation of her business and personal life. She bravely shares the story and transformational awakenings on multiple stages and venues through her speaking, artwork, and books. Caren's commitment to Self-transformation has positioned her as a leader in the community, inspiring and activating others to live their vision of greatness and radically transform themselves into light leaders in the world. 39:10The Power of Coregulated Parenting ~ Guest, Rachel Steinmetz Let's Talk Wellness - with Host, Mara James One of the big challenges of parenting is to keep personal stuff from interfering in your relationship with your children; easier said than done for most parents. This week, Mara welcomes Rachel Steinmetz for a conversation about empowering parents with tools and practices for self regulation, that in turn help them support each other and their children. Coregulated Parenting is a philosophy and workshop founded by parents of four, Rachel Steinmetz, Parenting Coach and Tim Steinmetz, former Early Childhood Educator. The Closed Caption Method, developed over the years through in depth field research to test and refine its application is centered on the principles of co-regulation, which emphasizes the importance of caregivers managing their own emotional states to effectively support and connect with their children. Rachel and Tim strongly believe that caregivers' own regulation and healing are crucial in fostering a healthy and symbiotic relationship with their children. This approach teaches the tools needed for parents to grow alongside their children rather than in opposition to them, helping to create a nurturing and understanding environment for both parties. 37:44Empowering Mothers Through Pregnancy, Childbirth and Beyond ~ Guest, Carrie Cesario Let's Talk Wellness - with Host, Mara James Pregnancy and Childbirth can be two of the most challenging events a woman can go through. Added to that is the concern for helping baby have a positive and healthy start. And then there is everything that comes after childbirth. This week, Mara welcomes Carrie Cesario to share about her amazing work supporting women to have empowered pregnancy and childbirth experiences, in turn, fostering greater connection and confidence for mother and child in their relationship. Carrie has been a birth professional since 2011, teaching Hypnobabies Childbirth Hypnosis and working as a Hypno-doula. After 7 years of birth work, a passion for empowering women, and to better serve the birth & postpartum communities with rapid healing options for the best possible start to motherhood, Carrie began her studies to becoming a certified clinical hypnotherapist through the Transpersonal Hypnotherapy Institute in 2018. She expanded further and gained certification as a Conscious Parenting Method & Life Coach in 2020 so that she could continue her work with women and families long past the postpartum period. Combining her “conscious parenting” of her own children since picking up Dr. Shefali’s book ‘The Conscious Parent’ in 2015, with her birth professional journey, Carrie has many years of experience under her belt doing this "work”; in addition to being trained by Dr. Shefali herself, and walking this amazing journey to serving women and families. She also trained in Gabor Mate’s trauma-informed Compassionate Inquiry method to better serve her clients with trauma related healing needs. Carrie firmly believes that birth work, Transpersonal Hypnotherapy, Conscious Coaching and Compassionate Inquiry fit together perfectly - they all bridge the gap between the psychological, physical & spiritual aspects of the human experience, allowing her to meet each of her clients exactly where they’re at and guiding them toward healing, growth and authentic/conscious living. Carrie offers two signature programs: Conscious Recovery Program: Life & Birth Trauma Healing, &, Boundaries: For HSPs, Empaths & Beyond - which combine all of her skills, techniques and gifts for rapid, effective, mind-body-spirit healing. 36:33Behavior & Tantrums in Young Children ~ Guest, Laurie Glickman Let's Talk Wellness - with Host, Mara James One experience of a tantrum with a young child is usually enough to send most people running (or at least make them want to run). This week, Mara welcomes Laurie Glickman for a conversation about things to know, and some practices to help with, unhappy behavior and tantrums in young children. Laurie Glickman, MSW has been working with children ages 0 – 5 for the past twenty years. She is currently an Infant Specialist/Child Development Specialist at ICEC in Irvine, California. Her clients are infants and toddlers with a known or suspected developmental delay in one or more in these areas of development: fine motor, gross motor, adaptive skills, speech and language, cognition as well as social-emotional skills. The therapy includes play therapy, language stimulation techniques, as well as parent education and training. Working with children requires a unique set of skills to connect with various personalities and age groups. Laurie is confident that she has a level of intuition needed to understand the needs of these children and their families. She knows that having a sense of empathy and sensitivity (depending on the physical and psychological background of the child and caregiver) along with behavioral management skills can only set these children and their families up for success. Patience, creativity, enthusiasm, passion, compassion, and dedication are imperative in her practice. You can reach Laurie at lrglick53@gmail.com for questions on your infant-toddler’s development or information on parenting/behavioral techniques as well as your child’s mental health. * * * "Let's Talk Wellness" was inspired by the desire to share the Extraordinary Lives Foundation’s mission with the world! 45:44Bipolar Is Not a One-Size-Fits-All ~ Guest, Gabe Howard Let's Talk Wellness - with Host, Mara James There is an interesting tendency to look at bipolar through a ‘one-size-fits-all' lens but do you know any two people who are exactly alike? And whether you have or have not heard of it, you are in for a treat. This week, Mara welcomes Tom Paladino for a conversation about his research in scalar energy, his own experiences using it, and the miraculous things he has witnessed it can do. Tom Paladino is a researcher and humanitarian seeking to make a difference in the world by providing people with the education and tools to restore optimal health, and by helping enhance their quality of life. Tom began research with Scalar Energy during his undergraduate years after developing a deep admiration for the father of Scalar Energy research or knowledge, Nikola Tesla. He was also able to study the work of a man Hieronymus who continued research on Scalar Energy. Hieronymus’ major contributions included unbinding the RNA/ DNA bonds of microbes plaguing the agricultural industry (rendering them harmless). The existence of such energy not found within the electromagnetic spectrum, fascinated Tom. Inspired by these findings, he pursued a course of independent study seeking to better understand and subsequently harness Scalar Energy, through the development of an instrument called “Scalar Light”. Tom is sharing an amazing offer for you to experience scalar energy for yourself, with 15 days of FREE scalar light sessions. 40:50Journey of Reflection – A Healing Journey ~ Guest, Helen Marie Diaz Let's Talk Wellness - with Host, Mara James Childhood trauma can leave invisible scars as well as visible ones. And they often go unacknowledged until things build to a breaking point. For some, it sets the perfect storm for a break down to be a break through. This week, Mara welcomes Helen Marie Diaz to share her experience of breaking down, breaking through and becoming free to inspire others to their own healing journey. At nearly 50 years old, Helen began clinical therapy for the first time and was diagnosed with Complex Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (CPTSD) and depression. As a survivor of physical and emotional child abuse by her father, Helen started writing poetry to help her process the trauma while in clinical therapy. Reading her poems in therapy helped her through this journey of understanding, overcoming, and healing. That is when Helen decided to publish her poems in her new book called Journey of Reflection, A collection of Poems . Helen is a proud Chicana, born in East Los Angeles (ELA), California. Growing up in a low-income, unstable household, Helen is the first and only child among 10 siblings to obtain a college education. Helen has over 30 years of experience working in the non-profit field. She served in senior management positions managing critical programs and helping others to overcome their own adversities. Helen has a bachelor’s degree in Psychology from California State University, San Bernardino, and a master’s degree in Public Health from Capella University. Helen is now working as a speaker, trainer, podcaster, and consultant to bring greater awareness of the effects of childhood trauma with the mission to destigmatize mental health. 38:05Integrative Psychiatry: A Path to Healing and Wholeness ~ Guest, Dr. Laila Contractor Let's Talk Wellness - with Host, Mara James “Psychiatry” might seem like a big word that is mostly associated with conversations to figure out someone’s mind, but it is a good bit more than that. This week, Mara welcomes Dr. Laila Contractor to the podcast for a conversation about her own healing journey to physical and mental wellness, and how it led her to the field of Integrative Psychiatry. Some of Dr. Laila Contractor’s earliest memories are with her grandfather, in his medical office talking to patients in India. Very early in her life, he made an impression on her that truly listening to his patients did as much for them as the medicine he prescribed. Dr. Laila’s experiences over the years led her to believe that a healthy mind was the most important aspect of a healthy life. She studied at several top medical schools and clinics in the nation, and worked with some of the biggest researchers in the field of psychiatry. She also worked with Kaiser Permanente for thirteen years where she helped develop their Teen Intensive Outpatient Program for those adolescents at-risk for hospitalization and suffering from significant depression amongst other issues. The onset of a debilitating condition in 2019 took Dr. Laila into the field of integrative medicine through receiving treatment from Kelly McCann M.D./MPH at The Spring Center. And it was with her brilliance, kindness, and amazing comprehensive, Integrative care that Dr. Laila started to find her way back to health. Dr. Laila’s journey inspired her to complete an Integrative Psychiatry Institute Fellowship through the University of Colorado School of Medicine so she could offer her patients effective, research-based alternatives to traditional treatments. Dr. Laila has built a practice that centers around partnership with children and families, to provide a holistic integrative evidence-based model for wellness with compassion and care for each unique individual. 39:41Emotions In Motion ~ Guest, Dr. Greg Olsen Let's Talk Wellness - with Host, Mara James We all have them - emotions - whether we want to pay attention to them, or not. Research increasingly shows more evidence of our emotions having connection to our physical condition, and in turn, to our well being. This week, Mara welcomes Dr. Greg Olsen to the podcast to share some of his insight and experience with what emotional healing can contribute to our bodies and our wellness. After graduating from the Los Angeles College of Chiropractic in April 1994, Dr. Greg Olsen’s journey began into chiropractic practice. His primary target is to help people find or return to their optimal wellness and vitality, and he has been pursuing that from day one of his journey to building his integrative health practice. As a Wellness Expert, Dr. Olsen finds that all health problems, like chronic pain, fibromyalgia, peripheral neuropathy, vertigo, back pain, neck pain, headaches or hypothyroid problems, have three causes – nutritional and chemical toxicity, hormones imbalance caused by stress, and trauma causing neurological damage. He witnesses on a daily basis that when we address these three causes, people get better. Dr. Olsen is committed to helping all of his patients live a healthy and active life. He is incredibly passionate about empowering each patient with the knowledge and resources to take control of their health. He knows that he was truly led to this life path and thanks God every day for the joy and privilege of being able to help people. The mission of the HUGS center is to bridge the gap between medical professionals and approved holistic healers. ELF is excited to share the many amazing healers and practitioners that are part of the HUGS center as an invitation to change the ideas and conversations around mental health.
