Mr. Pope is also the author of three books: Sahib, An American Misadventure in India; Hazardous Waste in America; and co-author along with Paul Rauber of Strategic Ignorance: Why the Bush Administration Is Recklessly Destroying a Century of Environmental Progress, which the New York Review of Books called "a splendidly fierce book."

In this episode, the topics discussed include:

  • The clean energy revolution .
  • The new reality: climate change can be solved with opportunity, no sacrifice necessary.
  • Carbon emissions and food systems: shipping, storage, waste.
  • The overuse of the word efficiency: legacy, creative, and innovative maybe better words.
  • Cities and their role in solving climate change - they are a source and a solution to the problem.
  • In lights of the U.S. pullout from the Paris Agreement, why should there be hope?
