The holiday season is in full swing, and that means shopping, wrapping, unwrapping, cleaning, cooking, lighting candles, hiding gifts, seeing family, celebrating, and of course, eating.

Phew!!!

Given all of that activity and stress, it may also mean eating when you're not hungry, binge eating, stress-eating, and eating foods that you don't normally eat.

And unfortunately, all of that can lead to feelings of guilt.

But it shouldn't!

Guilt about eating is NOT warranted. Enjoying food isn't wrong. And falling back on a coping skill that you've had for a long time is completely understandable.

That guilt is also NOT helpful. It very often leads to even more eating (as a way of numbing those guilty feelings), or restricting (which eventually leads to eating).

It's time to let go of the guilt.

And we're talking about how to do that on today's podcast.

In this episode, we're talking about what guilt is. Surprise! It's a part! That means that a part of you uses feelings of guilt to influence your behavior.

But here's the deal: guilt is all about morality. We feel guilty when we feel we've done something morally wrong.

Is eating ever morally wrong??? Well, the answer to that is that it shouldn't be, but it is thanks to diet culture. Diet culture has made food good or bad, which makes us good or bad depending on what we eat.

Diet culture has moralized our bodies too. Thin bodies are considered controlled and good while large bodies are seen as out-of-control and gluttonous.

All of this is ridiculous, to say the least.

So in today's episode, I give you five tips to end the guilt over food and eating. I also share with you how I talked to one of my eating parts who was demanding popcorn NOW. After getting to know what was really going on for this part, the popcorn became irrelevant.

Take a listen!
