Over on The XY Code, I reran a post telling women to encourage their husbands to do things with other men, including overnight retreats and hunting trips. One fellow dropped the following in the comments:

Men who are constantly left hungry for sex and longing for connection with his wife are much more likely to not go away or hang out with male friends.

He’s not wrong.

When I felt we weren’t having enough sex, I recall making bad choices that limited me in a desperate attempt to never miss out on sex.

Man in a suit running and pulling a woman in a red dress going past a restaurant.

If we were with friends in the evening, and someone suggested something that would delay us getting home, I said no to whatever. Sex was unlikely in general, and was flat out not going to happen if we got home late. Being away overnight meant no sex that night, and probably no sex the night before or after.

Looking back, I realise these choices were bad not just for me, but also for my wife, my marriage, my sex life. I needed more male fellowship. Not having it hurt me, and my marriage. If we had stayed out late doing something my wife enjoyed, we would not have sex when we got home, but doing something she enjoyed together would improve our relationship; and that would make sex more likely in general. What’s more, if my wife knew I was saying no to something she wanted to do to get sex, that could mean no sex that night and several more after.

I was so focused on my next score, I was blind to the bigger picture and how my actions were making things worse.

If any of this rings a bell with you, what are you going to do to change?
