Rev. G. "Reimoku" Smith is among the first African American Zen Buddhist monks ordained in the Soto lineage. With over a decade of practice experience at the New Orleans Zen Temple, including a three year residency under the stern tutelage of its abbot-emeritus, Robert Livingston Roshi, he has dedicated his life to upholding and spreading Zen practice as it has been taught to him by his beloved teacher. His mission is to model liberation by following the courageous path of the Bodhisattva and to support others in the attainment of theirs, especially those of African descent and queer affiliation.
As founder of Zen Voice Productions, LLC, Rev. Smith is working to make the literature of his tradition and other wisdom sources more accessible in the form of audiobooks. Additionally, he is growing his second budding entrepreneurial venture, Zen Friend & Urban Monk, which is a spiritual life coaching business grounded in the spirit of pastoral care and geared toward those who wish to deepen their practice. His target community is BIPOC, any person on LGBTQ spectrum, and those who identify as highly sensitive-intuitive. (As a reference, check out Dr. Elaine Aron's pioneering book, The Highly Sensitive Person.)
