eConsults, also known as electronic consultations or interprofessional consults, are communications between health care providers, who can use them to get recommendations and additional expertise about complex conditions from providers in other locations. These programs and resources help health centers take advantage of beneficial specialty care expertise to provide to their patients who may not have access to this care otherwise. The value of eConsults increased during the COVID-19 pandemic as a way to reduce unnecessary in-person patient visits to specialists, and continue to provide value as a way to increase access to specialist care for patients, decrease their wait times, and to alleviate pressures in resource-constrained environments.
