“Good News of Great Joy”
Today’s reading from Luke 2:8-20 captures the awe-inspiring moment when shepherds, keeping watch over their flocks, are visited by angels announcing the birth of Jesus. The angel’s message—“Good news of great joy for all people”—emphasizes that the gospel of Jesus is for everyone, bringing peace and joy to those who receive it.
The shepherds’ response is immediate. They go with haste to see the Savior and then spread the word of what they have witnessed. Their excitement and boldness remind us of the importance of sharing the good news of Jesus with others. Evangelism is not just an obligation but an overflow of the joy and hope we have in Christ.
Today, reflect on the question: How can you share the gospel with those who are far from God? Pray for boldness, wisdom, and a heart that desires to make His name known. Let the good news of Jesus inspire you to glorify and praise God, just as the shepherds did.
What is Advent? It is the season of remembering and rejoicing. We remember Christ’s first coming as a baby born in Bethlehem and joyfully anticipate his second coming, when he will return to renew and redeem every part of the fallen creation. The Advent season is a time to reflect upon God's promises and anticipate their fulfillment.
Join us on this journey of hope.
