“Good News of Great Joy”
Today’s reading from Luke 2:8-14 recounts the incredible moment when angels appeared to shepherds, proclaiming the birth of Jesus. On an ordinary night, the fields were suddenly illuminated by the glory of the Lord, and the angel announced the good news: the Savior had been born. The angelic choir’s song, “Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace,” filled the night with hope and joy.
This moment reminds us that the message of Christ’s birth is for everyone, including the lowly and unexpected. The shepherds’ experience challenges us to reflect on the awe and wonder of this season. Their response to the good news—a heart full of praise—can be ours as well.
As you move through this Advent season, ask yourself: Is the praise of God the song of your heart? Let the story of the shepherds inspire you to live in awe of God’s glory, peace, and the gift of His Son. Join us in praising Him today!
What is Advent? It is the season of remembering and rejoicing. We remember Christ’s first coming as a baby born in Bethlehem and joyfully anticipate his second coming, when he will return to renew and redeem every part of the fallen creation. The Advent season is a time to reflect upon God's promises and anticipate their fulfillment.
Join us on this journey of hope.
