Episode 1: Advancing ASEAN Women Peace and Security Agenda

Women, Peace, and Security Forum

The regional organisation ASEAN has adopted the Joint Statement on Promoting Women, Peace and Security Agenda in the region in 2017 and created a Women and Peace Registry in 2018. However, ASEAN still has homework to mainstream the adoption of Women, Peace and Security (WPS) agenda among its members. This first podcast features commentaries from experts and practicioners on how far has the agenda been implemented in ASEAN, in particular in Indonesia, with enriching lesson learned from Canada in implementing National Action Plan on WPS. The Head of International Relations Department of CSIS, Dr Shafiah Muhibat, noted Indonesia achievement in empowering women. The National Director of Asian Muslim Action Network, Dwi Ruby Kholifah, shared her experiences in drafting and implementing National Action Plan at the grassroots level as well as the challenges she faced. The Canada Ambassador to ASEAN, H.E. Diedrah Kelly presented the experiences of Canada. Last, but not least, the ASEAN Advocacy Manager from Forum Asia, Rachel Judhistari, shared the hurdles faced by ASEAN in implementing WPS agenda to provide protection for women human rights defenders.
