As hypnotists, it’s important that we remember our role in our client’s change process. Our role is not to create goals for our clients but rather to help them achieve the goals they create for themselves. Sometimes, those goals may simply be to help them make things ‘suck less’ – like cutting back on the number of cigarettes they smoke each day instead of quitting smoking entirely. And that’s okay. But sometimes, measuring this type of hypnotic success can be difficult. After all, it’s easier to measure a client’s success when the end goal is to ‘stop doing the thing,’ but not as easy if it’s simply to reduce a particular behavior. With so many variables, how can we measure the effectiveness of our hypnotic approaches while remaining flexible and adapting to our client’s unique, individual needs and goals?

In this episode, I discuss how to measure your client’s hypnotic success. I share how respecting a client’s goals and preferences while remaining flexible and adaptable in my hypnotic approach led my client to achieve remarkable results. I discuss the importance of avoiding the ‘one-size-fits-all’ trap when working with clients and the importance of embracing diverse perspectives and methodologies in hypnosis. I discuss why we should challenge the all-or-nothing type of thinking and highlight the importance of conditioning and future-proofing your clients’ resilience. I also explain why your client’s opinion and perspective on the outcome they received from your hypnosis sessions should be the primary tool you use to measure their hypnotic success.
