We all know the feeling of dealing with challenging emotions or circumstances. The holidays adds a MILLION PERCENT more to it. Pressure. Stress. Overwhelm. What ostensibly is to be a loving and peaceful time often doesn’t remotely FEEL like it. What to do? Is there a way to do the holidays when life is hard? That’s our topic today. Oh joy! Ever elusive, and mysterious. We might wonder why it feels so hard to MAKE joy. Well, apparently that is not how joy “WORKS”. We can’t make joy do a thing; joy arrives. Let’s talk about this ninja-like joy. And listen in to a recent, popular poem by Donna Ashworth, “Joy Chose You”. Maybe we don’t have to do anything at all for joy to arrive. Biggest lesson I ever learned—the hard way—is NO ONE IS COMING. No one. I either had to choose to change gears (see previous episodes!) or stay stuck. And frankly neither sounded appealing. Just sayin. Today, let’s talk about the power of genuine connection in relationship to others and, most importantly, ourselves.…

This is the last episode of a this series on Lifehacks on Relationships: Family, Friends, and Romantic. 1. This is the final episode of this relationships series --whether we want to believe it or not, everything goes back to how we related to our caregivers as children. If you are just tuning in, go back and listen to that podcast here . Humans are wired for relationships and the foundation for any good relationship is connection. Connection is the magical warmth of being seen and heard, and it can feel incredibly vulnerable. We learn about relationships and connection from our earliest years of development, so our patterns of behavior in relationships directly correlate to how we experienced or understood connection as a child. We dive into how we experience our romantic relationships based on how we experienced our childhood with our first caretakers. I introduce you to the concepts of attachment theory along the way. 2. Click here to access the presentation as I mentioned in the podcast. Click here to access the Writing Prompts for today's episode. These are where the work begins and can be tremendously helpful in self-awareness. 3. In the previous episode, I shared about the following: A podcast episode from Brene Brown's "Unlocking Us" where she and her sisters debrief on the book "The Love Prescription"-- so good . (There are three parts to this series--I highly recommend listening to all!) Click here to listen! Here's details on the book "The Love Prescription" by John M. Gottman and Julie Schwartz Gottman, PhD. Go and get all the goods on my Linktree . Everything--Writing Prompts, Podcasts and recent Lives--are right there for you! The next three episodes I am sharing some Lifehacks on Relationships: Family, Friends, and Romantic. 1. This episode will kickstart this series as we dive into why I'm starting with "family" and not "romantic"--whether we want to believe it or not, everything goes back to how we related to our caregivers as children. We all are born in connection, have been wounded in connection, and we all can be healed in connection. 2. Click here to access the Writing Prompts for today's episode.
