Episode 7 - The Mend Project
Manage episode 340456256 series 3392416
Have you ever tried to confide in a trusted friend, family member, counselor or pastor about the abuse within your marriage, only to get a trite response that dismissed, trivialized and invalidated your story? Unfortunately, this is an all too common scenario that plays out for victims of emotional abuse and that's what we're discussing in this episode.
Today we’re speaking with Annette Oltmans, Founder and CEO of The Mend Project. While seeking the help of professionals and responders, Annette experienced Double Abuse® in the form of spiritual and institutional abuse when her cries for help were ignored or brushed away, or, she herself was blamed for the situation. Annette’s personal experience of long-term emotional abuse in marriage and her extensive journey of recovery ignited her passion to found The M3ND Project in 2016. In working to prevent and remediate such harm, Annette developed protocol models that are now being taught and implemented by therapists, churches, and professional organizations across the United States.
Join us for an eye-opening discussion around the responsibility of first responders, the damage that is done with “double abuse” or secondary abuse – when victims are not believed, and how The M3ND Project is training professionals how to recognize the red flags of covert emotional abuse.
Founded by Dr. David Hawkins, the Marriage Recovery Center is the leading authority on the treatment of narcissistic and emotional abuse. To schedule your in-person or video session, call our team at (206) 219-0145 or email info@marriagerecoverycenter.com
