Hyper independence and over-responsibility are common in high-achieving women, especially women physicians.
These attributes are cultivated and praised in medical training and in many cultures.
They continue on driven by a fear of failure, inadequacy, and/or bad outcomes.
They may have been expected and needed initially but they are also not sustainable.
They cause isolation, burnout, exhaustion, and potential harm to self.
How do we change our relationship with responsibility and independence?
Notice our patterns with mindfulness and compassion
Ask what sustainability would do?
Focus on what is in our control
Fix only what’s ours to fix
Show up with LOVE
Allow vulnerability
Where do over-responsibility and hyper-independence cause you harm?
