Do you struggle with putting yourself in uncomfortable circumstances, even when you know they are necessary?
Maybe you feel like you will be judged, you'll hinder your credibility if you don't have the right answer, or you'll look "stupid."
A few years back when I was still working in the classroom, I was asked to present to our diocese, a talk on getting comfortable with being uncomfortable in the classroom. Growing up as a self diagnosed perfectionist, I recognized the extreme anxiety in my students that emerged as a result of their discomfort for what they would deem as “failure.” This looked like not mastering something the first day they learned it. Getting a 98% instead of a 100%. Or, simply, not being the first to accomplish something or receive the most praise.

This observation went beyond my students. It wasn’t just them that struggled with not having all of the answers. I saw it in my coworkers too. Teachers who had an underlying fear that they might look stupid in front of their students if they tried something new and it didn’t work out, or they didn’t know the answer. Administrators who struggled with inner turmoil over doing the right thing because they knew they would have to endure the unending parent complaints no matter their decision.

And, I’d be lying if I said I didn’t struggle with a lot of these same insecurities as well.
In this episode I am joined by nurse, business owner, mental wellness advocate, and mom coach, Amanda Rayhel. She is going to breakdown how we can...

  • learn to live peacefully in messy action
  • ask for help, even when it's awkward
  • embrace rejection
  • get comfortable with being uncomfortable
  • destress in a quick mom minute
